About this document
Racism and Injustice in Mockingbird Trial by hartfield1 is a document available to read on EtoBox.
Tom, a young black man, is on trial for the alleged rape of Mayella, a white woman. Racism pervades the trial, as the all-white jury has already deemed Tom guilty solely because of his race, blind to considering his perspective. Tom recounts being regularly employed by Mayella to do tasks, and on the day in question, she invited him inside and made unwanted advances, which he rejected, angering her father who arrived and attacked Tom with his left hand, the only one able to have committed the assault.
