Alex wakes from a recurring dream about her father abandoning her and finds herself in a bare white room with no visible means of entry or exit. She has no memory of how she got there. Three psychiatrists enter and interrogate her about self-harm scars on her arms, accusing her of cutting herself and blaming herself. Alex denies this but one psychiatrist, Dr. Wallace, pushes her until she has a breakdown. Her mother is then brought into the room.
