About this document

Babesia gibsoni in an Italian Dog Case by Gabriela Victoria Martinescu is a document available to read on EtoBox.

1. A 4-year-old female American Pit Bull Terrier from Italy was evaluated for lethargy, weakness, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Physical examination revealed pale mucous membranes, hunched posture, and abdominal tenderness. 2. Bloodwork showed moderate anemia, and ultrasound found splenomegaly and hyperechoic lesions in the spleen. The dog underwent splenectomy due to suspected splenic torsion. 3. Post-surgery, anemia worsened and blood smear revealed intra-erythrocytic piroplasms consistent with Babesia.
