Coherent Inequality Views: Linear Invariant Measures Reconsidered by Udo Ebert is a Economics, Econometrics and Finance article available to read on EtoBox.

What is Coherent Inequality Views: Linear Invariant Measures Reconsidered about?

The objective of the paper is to determine coherent-i.e. internally consistent-inequality views. It describes an inequality view by a set of transformations which link the distributions regarded as equally unequal. Coherence involves two conditions: path-independence and transfer-consistency. Focusing on individualistic and symmetric transformations the paper identifies the class of inequality views satisfying these properties. It turns out that the transformations have to be linear: Only the relative, absolute, and intermediate view and a novel one-reference-point inequality-are coherent. An inequality measure being compatible with one of these views has to be invariant with respect to the corresponding transformations.
