This study compared the performance of 5 diagnostic methods for detecting pathogens that cause tuberculous meningitis (TBM) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples. The methods included acid-fast bacillus stain, mycobacterial culture, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), Xpert MTB/RIF assay, and metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS).
