About this document

King Louis XVI is a document available to read on EtoBox.

King Louis XVI was an unpopular and ineffective ruler of France who contributed to the French Revolution. He and his wife Marie-Antoinette lived lavishly while raising taxes, angering citizens. When protests erupted in 1789, Louis was unable to stop the revolution as he had no understanding of ruling a country. He attempted to escape France with his family but was captured and executed on January 21, 1793, ending both his life and the French monarchy.
