Phrasal verbs are verb-particle combinations where the particle can change the meaning of the verb. There are no rules to explain how they are formed, so they must be looked up. The particle is usually placed after the verb but comes after an object pronoun. Examples of frequently used phrasal verbs are given with their meanings, such as "break down" meaning to fail to function or have a collapse, and "get through" meaning to pass an exam or be connected by phone.
