What is Balboa about?

Vasco Nunez De Balboa was a Spanish explorer who in 1513 became the first European to sight the eastern shore of the Pacific Ocean from a mountain top in present-day Panama. He led an expedition of 190 Spanish followers through difficult terrain and upon reaching the ocean, waded into the waters and claimed the Pacific Ocean and all its shores for Spain, hoping to please the King of Spain with his discovery. Balboa contributed to history by becoming the first to discover the vast Pacific Ocean.
