What is Aerosolization and Bioaerosols about?
Aerosols is the general term used in describing very fine solid or liquid particles suspended in the atmosphere. Thus, bioaerosols are biologically originated aerosols containing microorganisms, their parts or fragments, toxins, and metabolites, in particulate matter or fluid. Infectious diseases remain one of the biggest threats to human health. History has shown that respiratory infectious diseases are the cause of some of the world's deadliest health crisis. A large amount and diverse disease-causing microorganisms or pathogens get into the human body through the respiratory tract, and they are typically carried through aerosols. This is also true of some of the world's most important plant diseases. This chapter explores how microorganisms become aerosolized, natural, and anthropogenic sources of bioaerosols in indoor and outdoor environments, the role of various groups of microorganisms that cause diseases in humans and plants when they become aerosolized.
