About this document

Overview of Monobactams and Aztreonam by Jagir is a document available to read on EtoBox.

Monobactams are a novel class of β-lactam antibiotics that contain a single β-lactam ring without an additional ring fused to it. They are effective only against aerobic Gram-negative bacteria like Neisseria and Pseudomonas. Aztreonam is a monobactam that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding protein 3. It is resistant to many β-lactamases and active against several Enterobacteriaceae. Adverse reactions include hypersensitivity, gastrointestinal effects, and phlebitis
