A Russian passenger ship carrying 74 people is stuck in thick Antarctic ice sheets approximately 1,500 miles south of Hobart, Australia. Three ice-breaking vessels dispatched by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority for a rescue effort are still at least two days away. The ship sent out a distress signal on Tuesday that was received by the U.S.-based Falmouth Maritime Rescue Coordination Center.
