What is Urea Hygroscopicity about?

This study evaluated the hygroscopicity and ammonia volatilization of urea coated with boric acid and copper sulfate or with elemental sulfur. Urea has high susceptibility to volatilization losses, especially when surface applied in no-till systems with crop residues. Coating urea with boric acid, copper sulfate, or sulfur reduced the critical humidity level but also delayed the volatilization process, potentially reducing losses.
