What is Analyzing "Infantry Assault" Poem about?

The poem "Infantry Assault" describes a brutal attack during the Vietnam War where a soldier shoots repeatedly at a Vietnamese soldier, tearing the skin from his head. The poem then mentions piles of corpses by a stream turned red with blood. After staying in a nearby village, the soldiers light the village on fire and watch the smoke rise as they reflect on the "sins" they have committed during the assault.
