What is FTP and Email Protocol Overview about?
FTP uses separate connections for control information and data transfer. A control connection on port 21 is used to send commands, while a data connection on port 20 transfers files. When an FTP session starts, the client initiates a control connection and the server then opens a data connection to transfer a single file. The control connection remains open for the session. Common FTP commands include USER, PASS, RETR and STOR to transfer files between client and server computers.
