Howard Carter was a British Egyptologist born on May 9, 1874, who is best known for discovering the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings. After years of searching with funding from Lord Carnarvon, he found the tomb on November 4, 1922, and opened its burial chamber on February 16, 1923, revealing numerous golden artifacts. Carter spent the next nine years documenting the findings before they were moved to a museum in Cairo.
