What is Seven Slavic Tribes Overview about?
The Seven Slavic tribes were a union of Slavic tribes in the Danubian Plain established in the 7th century. They faced attacks from the Byzantine Empire but allied with the Bulgar tribe led by Khan Asparuh. In 681, the Slavic tribes and Bulgars together defeated the Byzantines and established the First Bulgarian Empire. The Slavic tribes were tasked with defending parts of the new empire and gradually merged with the Bulgarians to form the Bulgarian ethnicity over subsequent centuries.
