Emerald plans to "dethrone" Prince Lorenzo, a popular student at her new school, as a way to make her life more exciting. In the first chapter, she learns more about Lorenzo and observes him on her first day of class. In the second chapter, she begins to implement her plan by trying to befriend Lorenzo and his friends in order to gain his trust and learn more about him. However, in her first class with Lorenzo he embarrasses her in front of the class, sticking gum on her shoe as a prank.
