What is Preface about?
It is with great pleasure that we present this supplement of the peer-reviewed scientific journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine, which contains 341 abstracts of the 5 keynote lectures, 226 oral presentations and 110 posters from the 27th Epidemiology in Occupational Health (EPICOH) conference held from April 30th to May 2nd 2019 in Wellington New Zealand. EPICOH 2019 was organised by the Centre for Public Health Research of Massey University, on behalf of the EPICOH Scientific Committee of the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH). These abstracts cover research into the effects of worker exposure to a wide range of chemical, biological, physical and psychological hazards, and into innovative methods of intervening to control these exposures. The local Organising Committee and the Scientific Committee hope that this meeting in Wellington encourages further debate about the role of the occupational epidemiologist, and answers the question whether it is enough for us to objectively identify causal risk factors and elucidate dose-response relationships, or should we be more involved in public policy and workplace intervention to improve worker health.
