Sectioning in engineering drawings involves using cutting planes to show internal features that cannot be seen otherwise. Cutting planes remove part of the section, showing what remains, with cross-hatching at 45 degrees used to indicate removed material. Centrelines are often used for cutting planes, and very thin sections are not hatched. Hidden details are not shown in sectional views except for special features, and webs, shafts, bolts and pins are usually not sectioned even if in the cutting plane.
