What is Carbapenemase-Positive Enterobacterales in Algeria about?
This study investigates the epidemiological and genetic characteristics of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales isolates from three hospitals in Batna, Algeria, between 2016 and 2019. Out of 5,316 clinical isolates, 201 were carbapenem-resistant, with 179 (89.05%) producing carbapenemase, predominantly the blaOXA−48−like gene. The research highlights the emergence of various carbapenemase gene combinations and the alarming resistance levels to colistin and carbapenem antibiotics in the region.
