What is Rizal about?

Rizal arrived in the remote town of Dapitan in Mindanao in 1892 after being exiled there by the Spanish. During his exile from 1892 to 1896, Rizal established a school for boys, practiced medicine, pursued scientific and artistic pursuits, and learned local languages while farming and inventing machines. He also befriended the local captain and won a lottery, using the funds to purchase land where he built a house, school, and hospital.
