The Yajurveda is one of the four Vedas, and contains liturgy and formulas needed for Vedic sacrifices. It exists in two primary versions - the Shukla (white) and Krishna (black). The Shukla contains the Vajasaneyi Samhita and Shatapatha Brahmana, while the Krishna contains four recensions - the Taittiriya Samhita, Maitrayani Samhita, Caraka-Kaṭha Samhita, and Kapiṣṭhala-Kaṭha Samhita. Each recension has associated texts on rituals and philosophy.
