This study evaluated the effect of injecting autologous satellite cells and smooth muscle cells on vesicovaginal fistulas in pigs. Seven pigs with induced fistulas were randomized to receive either an injection of cultured autologous satellite and smooth muscle cells or no treatment. One of the four fistulas was closed in the treatment group compared to none in the control group. However, no transplanted cells were detected histologically in the fistula tissue.
