What is Philippine Civil Code Overview about?

The Civil Code of the Philippines establishes the legal framework for persons and family relations. It was enacted in 1949 as Republic Act No. 386 and took effect one year after publication in the Official Gazette. The Code was based on the Spanish Civil Code of 1889 and the French Civil Code of 1804. It was drafted by a Code Commission established by President Manuel Roxas in 1947 to codify civil laws in the Philippines.
