Queen Nazinga was the 17th century queen of the Ndongo and Matamba kingdoms located in modern-day Angola. She was born in 1583 to the king and queen of the Ndongo kingdom and succeeded her brother as queen in 1624. Throughout her reign, Queen Nazinga fought to defend her kingdoms from invasion and conquest by the Portuguese colonizers.
