## Abstract The possibility of charge‐wave amplification in the two‐dimensional electron gas of the GaAs‐(AlGa)As heterostructure is considered. The amplification is the consequence of a beam instability in the 2D electron plasma which, in turn, is the consequence of the inversion of the electron distribution function of GaAs in a strong electric field.
