Early filmmaking began in Tucson, Arizona in 1913 when the French-owned Éclair Film Company established a studio there. They were attracted by the scenery and constant sunshine. Directed by Webster Cullison, the studio produced around 80 films over 9 months, including westerns and dramas. However, Cullison and the company abruptly left for Los Angeles in late 1914 due to conflicts. In 1915, other film ventures were attempted unsuccessfully.
