The town of Gamay was originally settled in Sabang but later moved due to Moro raids. It is located in Northern Samar province. Gamay has a population of over 23,000 currently. Jesuit missionaries first evangelized the area in 1612. The town has seen growth through the Spanish, American and post-war periods. It became an independent municipality through a law passed in 1947. The patron saint is St. Michael the Archangel and the church celebrates a yearly fiesta in his honor each September.
