The defendant Ah Chong, a cook, stabbed and killed his roommate Pascual, a house boy, after being awakened in the middle of the night by noises at their bedroom door. Ah Chong believed an intruder was trying to break in, and called out a warning before stabbing with a knife he kept under his pillow for protection. It was actually Pascual at the door. The court found that Ah Chong acted in good faith, without criminal intent, believing he was exercising his right to self defense against a perceived threat. T
