What is Improvements in Treadle Pumps about?

William H. Anderson of Riverside, California patented an improved treadle pump in 1890. The pump features a walking beam pivoted at its center that is operated by foot pedals at either end. Slots cut into the walking beam house half-pulleys connected to the piston rods. This arrangement allows for smooth, low friction operation of the pump with minimal risk of binding or twisting of components when the walking beam is vibrated by the operator
