What is The Giving Tree about?

The document tells a story about a boy who loved a tree as a child and would play in its branches. As the boy grew older, he would return to the tree asking for things like money, building materials, and a boat, which the tree provided by allowing parts of itself to be used. Over many years, the tree slowly lost its branches, trunk, and apples until it was just a stump.
