This study compares the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) in detecting postoperative cognitive decline in elderly patients after elective inguinal herniorrhaphy. Results show that the MoCA identified a higher incidence of cognitive dysfunction (32.9%) compared to the MMSE (15.2%). The findings suggest that early postoperative cognitive dysfunction is a significant issue even after minor surgeries, and the MoCA may be a more sensitive tool for assessment.
