Cave paintings were found depicting animals and hunters. Some caves contained paintings from multiple artists over time. Handprints were also discovered on cave walls. More recently discovered cave paintings were found using pigments from natural mineral sources. The carbon dioxide from early visitors viewing paintings in one Spanish cave in 1880 caused damage, leading to it being closed.
