What is Mobile Telemedicine for Cervical Cancer Detection about?
A mobile tele-oncology unit equipped with medical imaging and treatment devices was used to conduct cancer screening camps in rural areas of Kerala, India. In 16 camps, over 1,500 people were screened and 68 pre-cancerous cases were detected, including 21 cases of cervical pre-cancer treated with cryotherapy on the mobile unit. The unit allowed connection to cancer specialists for consultation and helped reduce cancer morbidity and mortality in rural populations by enabling early detection and treatment.
