About this document
Abnormalities of the Umbilical Cord by Imam Surya is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The umbilical cord can develop abnormalities during development or experience accidental pathology. Abnormalities in cord insertion include marginal or velamentous insertion, which is associated with higher risks. Abnormal cord length can be too short or long. Accidental issues include loops, knots, prolapse, thrombosis or ruptures, all of which can compress the cord and cause fetal distress. Umbilical cord prolapse in particular requires immediate cesarean delivery to prevent fetal hypoxia and death.
