T he round altar was first built in Sui Dynasty, and had been used continuously in Tang Dynasty for nearly 300 years. It is older than the round altar in Temple of Heaven of Ming and Qing Dy nasties in Beijing 北 京 by almost a thousand years. Location of the Sui-Tang round altar in Xi'an is similar to that of the Ming-Qing round altar in Beijing, both were located slightly to the east in the southern suburbs of the cities. The Ming-Qing round altar in Bei jing was located on the eastern side of the road outside Zhengyang Gate 正阳门.
