Actinomycetes are filamentous, Gram-positive bacteria that can cause actinomycosis infections in humans. They commonly live in the mouth and soil. While usually harmless commensals, they can cause cervicofacial infections when introduced from the mouth through dental procedures or poor oral hygiene.
