Chemistry is the study of matter and its properties. Matter can exist in three states - solids, liquids, and gases. Solids have a fixed shape and volume, liquids have a fixed volume but take the shape of their container, and gases have no fixed shape or volume. Chemistry also studies the particulate nature of matter, chemical and physical properties, and the classification of pure substances and mixtures.
