β-substituted alkyltin halides : II. Dialkyltin dihalides: mechanistic and spectroscopic aspects by Joseph W. Burley; Peter Hope; Ronald E. Hutton; Cornelis J. Groenenboom is a Chemistry article available to read on EtoBox.

What is β-substituted alkyltin halides : II. Dialkyltin dihalides: mechanistic and spectroscopic aspects about?

Hydrogen halides, tin and a,@msaturated carbonyl compounds react together under mild conditions to give mixtures of P-substituted alkyltin trihalides and bis(P-substituted aIkyl)tin dihahdes: &ylonitrile is also active. Spectroscopic data for a number of pure functionally substituted dialkyltin compounds is presented. The monoalkyltin compounds are almost certainly formed by the in-situ formation of trihalogenostannanes from hydrogen halides and tin. Several possible mechanisms are discussed for the formation of the dialkyltin compounds. The substituted monoalkyltin compounds react with tin to give the corresponding dialkyltin compounds as well as products which are believed to be relatively stable tin-tin species.
