This dissertation examines the effect of saxophone mouthpiece design on timbre using spectral analysis. Spectra were recorded from 12 alto and 3 tenor mouthpieces playing different notes. Physical measurements and CT scans were also taken. The spectral centroid, a measure of brightness, was calculated and compared between mouthpieces.
