The document compares analytical functions for fitting peaks from gamma ray spectra measured by germanium semiconductor detectors. It tests several previously proposed analytical functions with 0, 1, or 2 additive components to represent low-energy tailing on peaks from three germanium detectors ranging in volume from 13 to 120 cm3. The functions with more parameters provided better fits to the data. The variation of peak areas with some tailing function parameters was also investigated.
