What is Microglia about?

This study investigates the role of microglia in the experience-dependent refinement of visual circuitry in mice by depleting microglia using the CSF1R inhibitor PLX5622. The results show that the absence of microglia does not significantly affect retinal function, receptive field tuning, or experience-dependent plasticity in visual cortex neurons. These findings challenge the previously assumed critical role of microglia in the maturation of neural circuits.
