What is Fineness and Consistency of Portland Cement about?
This document describes a laboratory exercise to determine the normal consistency of Portland cement. Students will use a Vicat apparatus to conduct trials with cement paste samples made with varying water content. The normal consistency is reached when the apparatus needle penetrates the paste 10±1mm after 30 seconds. Data on water quantity, penetration depth and consistency will be recorded over four trials to find the normal consistency point. Calculations and analysis will then be reported.
