## Neuroimmunology 25 June 1997 -Oral presentations characterized as early active lesions (EAL), late active lesions (LAL) or inactive lesions (IL) based on several immunological and morphological criteria. Rwufts: The results demonstrate that already at the earliest stages of lesional development a subpopulation of oligodendrocytes express elevated levels of rrBcrystallin. In EAL and LAL 5-10% of all oligodendrocytes were found to express cBcrystallin, whereas in IL the relative number of aBcrystallin-expressing oligodendrocytes was tenfold less. For astrocytes the relative number of aB-crystallin-expressing cells was 4950% for all three types of lesions. Furthermore, cBcrystallin-expressing oligodsndrocytes and astrocytes display different patterns of distribution in the lesional area. No correlation was found between the location of cells that displayed detectable levels of hsp60, HNK-1 or rrBcrystallin. ## Conclusions: The data suggest different regulatory pathways for crB-crystallin expression in either type of glia cells.
