What is Manikyavelu Mansion: A Cultural Landmark about?
The Manikyavelu Mansion in Bangalore was originally owned by the royal family of Mysore over 90 years ago. It later belonged to a mine owner named Raja Manikyavelu Mudaliar. In the late 1960s, the Government of Karnataka took over the mansion and in 1989 offered it to the Ministry of Culture to establish the National Gallery of Modern Art. The mansion, which spans 3.5 acres and includes the original building and a new gallery block, now houses the National Gallery of Modern Art in Bangalore.
