This document summarizes a study on the diversity of exopolysaccharide (EPS)-producing bacteria isolated from the human gastrointestinal tract. Seventeen bacterial strains were isolated from two healthy individuals that were capable of producing EPS. Through 16S ribosomal DNA analysis, the strains were classified into seven genera: Lactobacillus (9 strains), Enterobacter (2 strains), Escherichia (2 strains), Klebsiella (1 strain), Cronobacter (1 strain), Staphylococcus (1 strain), and Alteromonas (1 strain)
