About this document
Nervous System Functions and Structure by jurie is a document available to read on EtoBox.
The nervous system is divided into the central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS). The CNS contains the brain and spinal cord while the PNS contains nerves and ganglia. Neurons are the basic functional units and come in several types defined by their number of dendrites and axons. Neuroglia provide support and insulation for neurons. Communication between neurons occurs through electrical and chemical signaling across synapses.
