This technical report provides an overview of rapid tests available for COVID-19 diagnosis in the EU/EEA. It describes two types of rapid tests - antigen detection tests that detect viral components and antibody tests that detect antibodies produced in response to infection. While many rapid tests are CE marked, their performance needs validation in real-life settings before using as stand-alone diagnostics. ECDC is working with partners to validate tests and provide guidance.
