A retrospective cohort study evaluated the safety of English ivy (Hedera helix) leaf extract syrup during pregnancy on newborns, involving 245 pregnant women in Saudi Arabia. Results indicated that newborns from the exposed group had a higher mean weight (3 kg) compared to the control group (2.8 kg), and while the APGAR scores were similar, the percentage of preterm newborns with health complications was significantly lower in the exposed group (6% vs. 20%).
