What is Hip Strengthening Reduces Symptoms But Not Knee Load in People With Medial Knee Osteoarthritis and Varus Malalignment - A Randomised Controlled Trial about?

A randomized controlled trial involving 89 participants with medial knee osteoarthritis assessed the effects of hip abductor and adductor muscle strengthening on knee load and symptoms. While the hip strengthening program improved pain and physical function, it did not significantly reduce the medial knee load as measured by the knee adduction moment. Therefore, hip muscle strengthening may enhance symptoms but is unlikely to influence the progression of knee osteoarthritis.
